PLACE · LANDSCAPE · EXPERIENCE

At Fajã dos Vimes, the landscape is not just spectacular: it is still lived in, cultivated and walked through. The recreational harbour and bathing area give you another reason to go down to the fajã. PR02SJO, from Serra do Topo to Fajã dos Vimes, is a 5.5 km linear route rated hard, with an average time of 2 h 30. The Azores tourism portal presents the plantation as an agricultural rarity linked to the microclimate of the fajãs.

Café da Fajã dos Vimes describes a Coffea arabica tradition maintained locally over generations. On the south coast of São Jorge, Fajã dos Vimes lies below the cliffs, between Fajã da Fonte dos Bodes and Fajã da Fragueira. The sheltered, milder conditions compared with the high plateau have supported a small community and a range of crops. SIARAM describes fertile land, a mild climate and coffee among the crops grown in the fajã.

SIARAM describes a small year-round community in the fajã, together with farmland and traditional craft activities. Several official trails start from or pass through the fajã. But several routes are linear, so the return logistics need to be considered before setting off. The descent includes an old stone staircase and can become muddy or slippery.
