Lagoa Funda, also known as Lagoa Negra, reaches a depth of 108 metres according to official tourism information. Together with Lagoa Comprida, it forms one of the characteristic landscapes of the central plateau. The viewpoint works as a short roadside stop when visibility is good.
It is also the starting point of PR03FLO, a 7 km linear trail classified as difficult and taking around three hours to Poço do Bacalhau. Fog and rain can completely change conditions at altitude. For the full trail, arrange transport from Fajã Grande and carry suitable equipment.
