Understanding Flores
Flores is defined by water: crater lakes on the central plateau, steep cliffs and the many streams and waterfalls that reach the western coast. Between Fajãzinha and Fajã Grande, the landscape becomes particularly vertical and rewards time rather than a rushed itinerary.
Weather can change the experience significantly. Clear conditions connect the lakes, cliffs and viewpoints, while cloud can reduce the value of high panoramas. Wet ground also matters on some trails, so the day's conditions should be considered before committing to a longer walk.
