The best way to experience Nordeste is to avoid treating it as a single attraction. It works as a territory: stop often, walk a little, look at the gardens and viewpoints, and leave enough time for the road itself. The coast is deeply cut and the interior rises quickly, creating the succession of viewpoints for which the area is known. On a clear day the contrast between ocean, cliffs and intensely green slopes is striking.
At least several hours; a full day makes more sense if you want to combine viewpoints, villages, gardens and short walks. Nordeste is not simply a village at the end of the road. The attractions are spread across a large area and the road itself is part of the experience. Nordeste also has traditional architecture, gardens, small churches and a strong rural character. A good Nordeste day is often built from several small stops rather than one headline attraction.
