The story, identity and character of the place
Visit Azores presents the centre as a place dedicated to the wild birds of the archipelago and to birdwatching. It works well alongside time spent outdoors: here, you build a little context around the birds, habitats and island before heading back into the landscape. The exhibition uses several forms of multimedia. It includes a sightings screen, a hologram, an illustrated book covering wintering, migratory, nesting and accidental birds, and a virtual-reality experience that lets visitors explore the island and better understand relationships between people and the environment.
There is another layer to the visit. The centre contains Corvo’s last mill, connected with the island’s former milling activity. The place therefore links nature interpretation with the memory of an island community.
